The Newcastle Jets have thumped rivals the Central Coast Mariners 4-0 in front of over 20,930 fans at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday night.
The match sparked into life after 20 minutes when striker Ben Gibson played a delightful through ball for Will Dobson to smash past Mariners goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne and make it 1-0.
Just five minutes later, the Jets had a second one when Clayton Taylor squeezed his shot through Andrew Redmayne to make it 2-0.
Clayton Taylor was again involved as the Jets made it 3-0 when he showed great strength to get past Mariners defender James Donachie and cross for Eli Adams to head home after Redmayne could only parry away.
The Jets continued to put the foot down in the second half with young attacker Xavier Bertoncello hitting the crossbar in the 78th minute.
The Jets delivered the final blow in the 85th minute when Xavier Bertoncello linked up well with Lachlan Bayliss, who played his pass in for Kota Mizunuma to put the icing on the cake and send the home crowd into party mode.
The Jets’ big win over the Mariners sees them finish the regular season on 48 points which has resulted in their first ever Premiership.
