The Opposition:

Muscat has assembled a high-quality squad at Shanghai, with former Brazil U23 international Mateus Vidal providing a creative threat with 18 assists over his two seasons with Port. Tyias Browning (also known as Jiang Guangtai) has previously played for both Everton and Sunderland, also representing England at U17, U19 and U21 level before switching his allegiance to China in 2021, earning 39 caps.

Chinese football legend Wu Lei also plays for Shanghai. The dynamic forward has previously played in La Liga for Espanyol in between his two stints with his boyhood club. In total, Wu Lei has scored over 200 goals for Shanghai across more than 450 appearances.

Squad News:

The Jets played on Saturday afternoon against Wellington, giving them just three days to recover and prepare for the match against Shanghai. This match is the fourth in a hectic 14-day, five game stretch, so there is likely to be some rotation from Saturday’s fixture against the Wellington Phoenix.

Patrick Wood has impressed so far in the AFC Champions League Elite, scoring a brace against Kyoto Sanga FC as well as a goal against Kashima Antlers, sitting second on the goalscorers charts.
