A Brief History

Initially founded as Newcastle United in the year 2000, the Club competed in the old National Soccer League (NSL) for four seasons before the league dissolved. The Club was named as one of the eight inaugural teams in the brand new A-league, also rebranding to it’s current name and logo. The Newcastle Jets hosted the first ever A-league fixture, with a bumper crowd of over 13,000 football fans crowing into what was then known as Energy Australia Stadium (now McDonald Jones Stadium) to catch the spectacle.

Since the Club’s first season in 2000/01, the Newcastle Jets have lifted three pieces of silverware. The first came in 2008, with the Jets defeated their F3 Derby rivals, the Central Coast Mariners, 1-0 in the A-League Grand Final, with Mark Bridge scoring the only goal of the game. The second trophy came in 2025, as the Jets came from behind to defeat Heidelberg United 3-1 in the Australia Cup Final. Heidelberg scored first, before Max Burgess equalised. In extra-time, Oscar Fryer scored a stunning goal to give the Jets the advantave, before Ben Gibson sealed the result by adding a third goal. The Club also lifted the 2025-26 A-League Premiers Plate, winning the league with 48 points. Rookie Head Coach Mark Milligan instilled an attacking brand of football, which was executed by an exciting team featuring the likes of Eli Adams, Max Burgess and Will Dobson amongst others.
