Home of Northern NSW NPL side Weston Bears FC since 1955, Hunter City Motor Group Stadium underwent a $6.4 million refurbishment across 2025 and 2026 which modernised the facility. A Brief History

The Newcastle Jets Women’s team was founded in 2008, with their debut season being 2008-09. The Club found instant success, finishing 2nd in the inaugural W-League season (now A-League Women), before being defeated by Canberra United in the semi-final. Following on from a positive debut season, the Club struggled, missing finals for eight consecutive seasons between 2009 and 2016-17. They bounced back in 2017-18, finishing 3rd and qualifying for the semi-finals. They would reach the finals again in 2023-24, sneaking into the top six on the final day thanks to an 8-0 demolition of Adelaide United.

Several standout names have represented the Newcastle Jets. Matildas legends Cheryl Salisbury and Emily Van Egmond, both from Newcastle, spent time with the Jets, as did 150-cap Matilda Lisa De Vanna. Fellow locals Tara Andrews, Lauren Allan and Cassidy Davis have made their mark in the national competition, combining for more than 400 appearances for their hometown Club.
