Ariane Hingst is hoping all the Jets Members and supporters come and watch them play on Saturday.
The Newcastle Jets are hoping to keep their 2011/12 finals dreams alive when they take on Brisbane Roar on Saturday afternoon at Adamstown Oval.
Saturday-s game will be the last home game of the season for the Women-s team and they are hoping all the Jets Members and supporters will come out and cheer them on.
Question: With Saturday being your last home game of the season, do you have a message to the Members and supporters?
Hingst: It’s our last home game and one of our most important because it is a do-or die game. We need as much support as we can get so to all the Members and supporters who are in Newcastle this weekend, please come along to Adamstown Oval at 3pm and help us keep our dream of playing in the finals alive. We are counting on you (“wir zählen auf euch”).
Question: With the outcome of this game likely to determine whether the Jets move on the finals, how is the team feeling?
Hingst: We played a very good game last weekend against Sydney and there were not too many people who believed we could do it and we did. So we go into the game with confidence and we know that on a good day we can beat any team. It will be a tough challenge on Saturday but we have already beaten Brisbane once this season and I am positive we can do it again.
Question: After going through a rough patch the Jets have managed back-to-back wins; are you happy with how the team has been playing and what improvements are needed from here?
Hingst: Compared to the start of the season we have improved a lot and that is evident from our last two games. We have been working hard on our positioning, pressure and winning the ball. The training sessions in the last few weeks have been really good and we have finally been able to transfer that to our games. We can-t just sit back and relax now, we need to work even harder.
Question: Do you think the win against Brisbane earlier in the season gives you an advantage going in to this week-s game?
Hingst: I don-t think it is an advantage or disadvantage but we know that Brisbane will be doing everything they can to not lose twice to us. It’ s a whole new game and an important one for both our teams so everyone can expect to see an exciting game.
Question: Did you get the chance to enjoy the festive season?
Hingst: I got invited to spend the Christmas with a friend-s family and enjoyed it a lot. It was obviously different from what I am used to in Germany but it was good. I spent New Years in Sydney and had a perfect place to enjoy the Sydney Harbour Bridge fireworks.
A reminder it is free entry for Jets Members to Saturday’s game. To celebrate the last home game of the season, there is also free entry for everyone 16 and under and lucky door prizes including a signed jersey and ball to win.
