The Newcastle Jets were defeated 1-0 by Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park in Matchweek Three of the Ninja A-League
Claire Henninger was called into action in the 12th minute, pushing a Sophie Harding shot over the bar. She could do nothing to Saveska opening the scoring for Melbourne Victory. Saveska fired towards the bottom right corner after the ball squeezed loose inside the box, with the ball just beating the outstretched hand of Henninger. Half-time came, with the scores locked at 1-0 to the hosts.
A moment of brilliance from Tash Prior came close to giving the Jets an equaliser. The centre-back made a darting run up the right wing, before controlling the ball and playing Valladares in behind with a well executed backheel. The American winger delivered into the box, finding Levin who dragged her shot narrowly wide of the post.
Melbourne Victory did well to sit in and repel the Jets attacks, as the Jets fell to a 1-0 defeat away from home. The A-League Women’s side are back in action on November 7th as they take on the Central Coast Mariners at polytec Stadium.
