The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets have today upgraded and extended the contract of defender Taylor Regan. The 23-year old, who was already contracted for next season, has signed an extended contract until the completion of the 2013/14 season.
The Dudley junior joined the Jets Youth team in 2008 and made his A-League debut in Round 10 of the 2010/11 season. Regan was the Youth team captain and according to his then coach Craig Deans, showed a lot of potential, strong leadership qualities, a good work ethic and an astute understanding of the game.
“Taylor has been exceptional so far this season and it is pleasing we have been able to extend his contract,” Assistant Coach Craig Deans said.
“He is a young, local player that has come though our youth system and I am sure there were times that he thought he might not have made it but he has shown determination and a willingness to work hard and now he reaps the rewards.”
Regan is enjoying his football and the opportunities afforded to him this season.
“It is great to have re-signed with the Jets,” Regan said.
“I have been able to get more game time this season and I am enjoying playing under Gary van Egmond.
“I have grown up in Newcastle, I love Newcastle and I wouldn-t want to be anywhere else.”
Coach Gary van Egmond was enthusiastic to keep Regan in Newcastle.
“I love what Taylor brings to the team and his communication in particular is outstanding,” the coach said.
“Taylor also embodies everything Newcastle. He loves the Club and the town. He enjoys the beach lifestyle. He has his family and friends close by. He has always been a Jets and Knights supporter.”
