Match Report: Knockout Blow From Rocky As Jets Down Victory

An Alex Badolato hat-trick as well as goals to Ben Gibson and Oscar Fryer secured a 5-2 win for the Newcastle Jets over Melbourne Victory

Ben Gibson opened the scoring in the 14th minute after reacting first to a loose ball in the box. Will Dobson drove down the right wing, before cutting in and finding Alex Badolato inside the box. Alex turned and fired towards goal, with his effort being saved. Gibson was quick to react, tapping the ball into the net to give the Jets a 1-0 lead.

Just six minutes later, Alex Badolato would score the best of the night, as he made a tackle before firing a long range rocket straight into the top corner, arguably besting his goal of the week from round one.

Melbourne Victory would pull one back soon after, with Genreau tapping in a loose ball inside the box.

Alex Badolato would grab another goal on the stroke of halftime. Dobson would beat his defender, before firing a low cross straight towards Badolato, who would comfortably finish the ball, giving the Jets a 3-1 lead going into the break.

The Jets would not be able to settle, as Jelacic was able to get in behind and lift the ball over Delianov and into the net, cutting the lead back to one goal.

Alex would complete his hattrick in the 79th minute, with another long-range stunner. Rose would fight to win the ball, with it eventually popping out to Alex. Rocky would take a touch, before firing into the bottom left corner as he earned himself the match ball.

Oscar would put the cherry on top of what was already a thrilling attacking display. A threatening ball from Daniel Wilmering would find the onrushing Fryer, who would dive to head in the cross, securing the 5-2 win for the Jets .
