This weekend sees the highly anticipated visit of the high flying Brisbane Roar to Ausgrid Stadium.
Ange Postecoglou’s side can equal the record for most consecutive unbeaten matches by a club side in Australian sporting history if they avoid defeat on Saturday evening.
The Jets have the chance to deny Brisbane their place in sporting folklore, and will relish that opportunity and the atmosphere of the big occasion.
It would have been in the back of the minds of the Jets playing group for the past couple of weeks that they would probably get the chance to provide a very stern final test for the Roar and in the process maintain their 100% home record this season.
They will also be quick to remind you that Brisbane’s ultra impressive run does not include a Newcastle scalp, the sides having drawn on three occasions last season.
This promises to be an exciting, nerve jangling and passionate encounter, and surely one of the highlight fixtures of the season.
Will the Roar stay calm and composed, methodical and relentless or can Gary van Egmond’s side summon the energy, inspiration and concentration required to rain on Brisbane’s parade?
There are several other interesting fixtures in this weeks round, the Sydney v Mariners match would be a feature match in almost any other season, but football fans throughout the country, and indeed the wider sporting community, will have their eyes on what will be an historic clash, one way or another, at 5.30 pm Saturday. Don’t you dare miss it.
