The Jets want to make sure they give it their all when they come up against Brisbane this weekend.
While the Newcastle Jets go into their game against Brisbane Roar this weekend as underdogs, Coach Gary van Egmond says the team do not fear Brisbane and want to ensure they give their all for the Members and supporters.
“We acknowledge how well Brisbane have been going but they are playing away from home and come here with our respect but we do not fear them,” van Egmond said.
“We have a pretty proud bunch of players here and the motivation for them is to ensure they give their all for the Members and supporters.
“The team have done that so far at home which is really encouraging for us.”
One area of improvement the team has been concentrating on at training this week is their transition, which van Egmond believes let the team down during their 3-nil loss to the Melbourne Heart.
“Our transition against Heart was poor and it is something we need to keep working on incessantly,” he added.
“Brisbane are very good with their transitions and if our positioning is poor and we turn the ball over in their half and we don-t get the ball down quickly they will have a lot of space to play in and that will really hurt us.
“Our transition was good for 25 minutes against Perth and that is when we scored our goals.”
The team have spoken in length about what they need to do this Saturday and know that despite a 34 game run, Brisbane can be beaten.
“Of course Brisbane can be beaten any team can be beaten,” the coach said.
“We have spoken about what we need to do and we need to make sure that we are on the same page when we run onto the pitch on Saturday.”
