The Newcastle Jets were defeated 3-0 by Wellington Phoenix on Saturday afternoon at McDonald Jones Stadium.
Vergos came close to opening the scoring. Debono picked up a loose ball before finding Nunes, who poked the Greek striker through on goal. Vergos charged down towards goal, but his angle was cut down by Gray who pushed it out for a corner.
Corban Piper opened the scoring for the Nix in the 14th minute, beating the offside trap before lobbing the stranded Delianov.
Alex Grant came closest to equalising for the Jets in the first half, with his header cleared off of the line by the Wellington defender. The Phoenix took their 1-0 lead into the break. Milligan went to his bench during the break, bringing on Joel Bertolissio and Xavier Bertoncello in place of Jesse Hill and Alex Nunes.
Bertoncello almost repaid his coach’s faith straight away, cutting inside past his defender before firing, with his shot being blocked by the defender. In the 58th minute, Alex Badolato, Joe Lolley and Max Burgess entered, replacing Dobson, Debono and Nick Badolato.
Bidois added a second for the Phoenix in the 87th minute, breaking through in behind before smashing past Delianov. Walker finished the game off in the 93rd minute, cutting inside before finding the bottom corner.
The Jets are back in action at home against Shanghai on Tuesday night, which is our final home game of 2026. Tickets can be purchased HERE
