Brockie’s hard work pays off with a double

Jeremy Brockie came out of the shadows on Saturday, scoring a double to help the Jets secure a 2-nil win.

While most people may have been looking to returning striker Francis Jeffers to score the points on Saturday, Kiwi Jeremy Brockie bagged a double to secure the Newcastle Jets a 2-nil win over Perth Glory at Ausgrid Stadium.

The striker’s first goal came just nine minutes into the first half and the second only one minute later.

“It is good to be able score goals like that,” Brockie said after the game.

“I had a couple of other chances so hopefully with more practice at training I will score more goals and all my shots will go in.”

Brockie puts his recent form down to a strong pre-season.

“This year-s pre-season is the best I have ever had,” Brockie explained.

“Obviously I suffered a small setback just before the season started but I have worked hard with the trainers and as a result I have lost 4kgs and I feel like I can move around the pitch better.”

Brockie-s combination with defender Tarek Elrich is also working in the All White-s favour.

“My partnership with Tarek has just fallen into place,” he said.

“We didn-t get to play with each other too much last season but he knows I want the ball early and he has an engine that will keep overlapping all day so that gives me an option to play on the back end or cut in.”

With a perfect home game record, Brockie is quick to acknowledge the support given the team by the Members and fans.

“We have a great home record so far and the crowd has been amazing at all three games,” the 24-year old said.

“For the whole 90 minutes the crowd does not stop cheering and it really spurs us on to get the three points for our Members and fans.”

Having suffered two away game losses the team is aware they need to prove that they can win away from home and will be looking to do so when they come up against Melbourne Heart at AAMI Park on Saturday.

“We need to fix our away game form, “ Brockie said.

“You can-t rely on home wins to get you into the finals.”
