A-League: Langlois signs first-team contract

The Newcastle Jets are delighted to announce young midfielder, Pat Langlois has put pen to paper on a first-team contract.

Formerly on a scholarship contract, Langlois this week signed a deal which will see him remain with the Jets until at least the end of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

A Newcastle junior, the 19-year-old earned his first-team debut in Round 26 of the 2018/19 season against Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.

He’s yet another example of the pathways from the Jets Academy to the first team – Langlois first joined the Jets as a 15-year-old from local club, Broadmeadow Magic, then again as a 17-year-old from Magic.

The young midfielder joined Angus Thurgate and Jack Simmons as players who have earned first-team debuts as scholarship players in the past two seasons.

Earning his stripes in the NPL Northern NSW and Foxtel National Youth League at various point throughout the past four years, Langlois worked his way through the Jets ranks and into the first team set-up.

Head Coach, Ernie Merrick was pleased to have the youngster locked in for another year.

“We signed Pat to a scholarship contract in February last year, and he’s gone from strength to strength,” Merrick said.

“I’ve heard plenty of good things from Labi Haliti and Lawrie McKinna about his performances in the youth team, and Pat has shown in training all season how much ability and potential he has.

“The fact that he’s a local junior is another huge plus for him and for the Club, it shows those boys coming through the Academy that there are pathways for them to one day join the first team.”

Langlois was delighted to sign a full professional contract with his local Club.

“I grew up in Newcastle watching and supporting the Jets, so to sign a full-time contract with the club is a dream come true,” he said.

“Labi and Lawrie helped me take that next step in the youth team, and then for Ernie to show faith and give me my first A-League start was incredible.

“Hopefully I can build on that next year, get a few more games under my belt and continue to improve my football.”

Langlois is still a mainstay of Labinot Haliti’s NPL Northern NSW side, playing in all but one match so far this season.

The youngster will continue to play in the competition until the end of May, before taking a break prior to pre-season for the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.
