Newcastle Jets defender and home grown talent Taylor Regan is enjoying being apart of the starting XI. He made is debut in the starting line up against Gold Coast United and earned his start again last weekend against Perth Glory.

Regan made his A-League debut coming off the bench last season and is determined to maintain a position in the starting line up for the 2011/12 Hyundai A-League season.

With Brazilian teammate and position rival Tiago Calvano sidelined due to injury it has created the perfect opportunity for Regan to step up and fill the position during his absence.

“I felt the game went really well. Good possession and form from all the boys,” Regan said after the Jets’ 2-nil win over the Glory.

“Tiago is anticipated back on the field soon and I-m sure he wants his spot back, so that is a decision for Gary (van Egmond).

“I have been doing all I can to secure myself a starting eleven position but at the end of the day it-s up to the coach.

“Tiago is a professional and an all round great player, I-m sure he will want to improve his game now coming back after injury. I will just have to continue to play well and prove that I deserve to be on the starting field.”

Having played ten games with the Newcastle Jets last season, Regan is continuing to learn from coach van Egmond and his teammates.

“Gary is big on possession, keeping the ball for as long as we can and if we lose it recover as quickly as possible,” the defender added.

“I enjoy his style of coaching; the feedback I have received from him has been extremely positive which helps me build on my game.

“I have learned a lot from the boys over the off season, they are very supportive. Hopefully I can continue to gain knowledge from both them and Gary over the coming weeks.”

Round six of the A-League sees Newcastle Jets meet Melbourne Heart head on at AAMI Park. The Jets travel to Melbourne with hopes of breaking their away game drought.

“I think this weekend-s game against Melbourne Heart is going to be more of a mental one. All this away game curse nonsense is just a media beat up,” the 22-year old said.

“We started the season with two hard away games and unfortunately we didn-t gain the three points. This weekend however we are hungry for it and will hopefully pull off another victory.”

Along with the rest of his teammates Regan is taking part in Movember. Movember is a moustache growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for men’s health.

“The guys are all doing really well with the Mo-s. Ryan Griffiths is a little on the worrying side, and I can-t believe (Michael) Bridgey has already given in. We are only eight days in to the month,” Regan said.

“We will just have to wait till the end of the month and see how bad they all are. Tarek and his porn star mo will be up there for the worst.”
