Jets not holding back

Morale is high amongst the Jets players and they will be holding nothing back this Saturday against the Mariners.

With preparations for Saturday-s game against the Central Coast Mariners well underway, morale is high amongst the Newcastle Jets players, who despite losing 2-1 on the weekend, are taking a lot away from a much-improved performance against Melbourne Victory.

Captaining the side in the absence of Jobe Wheelhouse, Ryan Griffiths said he was pleased with the football his team displayed on the weekend.

“We created chances and our effort and intensity was a lot higher,” the striker said.

“Obviously we need to stop making crucial errors and win those games but everyone is on board and our morale is good.”

With the Jets not having much success last time they travelled to the Gosford to play arch rivals the Central Coast Mariners, the team are looking to turn it around this weekend.

“Our possession was good against Victory and we have been practicing that a lot so now we need to focus on going forward and creating opportunities,” Griffiths explained.

“We are not going to hold back against the Mariners and are going to get in their face and keep applying pressure, which is what we believe is going to work for us.

“The Mariners are definitely the benchmark but I believe football wise we can out do them.

“They have some key players in their team that can really change a game so we need to close those players down and make sure they don-t get the ball.”

Having already scored seven goals this season, an in-form Griffiths believes he still has more goals in him.

“I should be on over 10 goals but that is the way the cookie has crumbled this year and I am happy to have seven but I always want more,” the striker added.

“I love that Brockie is trying to chase down my lead, I spoke to him the other day and he said people are telling him to beat me so I said ok bring it on.

“It is good to have a bit of a competition as long as we keep scoring and hopefully we can turn those goals into winning results.”

The Jets are hoping all their Members and supporters will travel to Bluetongue Stadium on Saturday to support the team during the F3 Derby.
