Right balance needed for final 11

Gary van Egmond and Craig Deans will now sit down and decide on the final 11 to start this weekend.

With the Jets completing their final training session ahead of Saturday-s F3 Derby against the Central Coast Mariners, Gary van Egmond and Craig Deans will now sit down and decide on the final 11 to start at Bluetongue Stadium this weekend.

Deans says one of the difficulties for the coaching staff is making sure they are in the best position to win the game and that means getting the right balance between youth and experience.

“Today we had another good hit and we are going through a little bit of a transition in certain areas which makes it harder to decide on what we are going to do,” Deans explained.

“The performance against Victory was really positive and we have an opportunity to build on that this weekend.

“Going into any game you need to have more than one plan, sometimes if you go into a game with only one plan and it doesn-t work you can get stuck so we need to have a few options.

“The players now understand that there are a couple of different variations to the system.”

With Jobe Wheelhouse and Francis Jeffers both missing out on this weekend-s game, a number of the Jets younger players are in this week’s squad.

“It was pleasing to see some combinations between Ben Kantarovski, Marko Jesic and Jacob Pepper during the game against Victory,” the assistant coach said.

“Obviously we still have a bit of an issue with creativity in the final third and that is something we have worked on this week and is something we will keep persisting with.”

A suspended Tarek Elrich will be replaced by Ruben Zadkovich who himself returns after a week of suspension.

“Ruben has all the attributes of a fantastic right back and I don-t think you will find any other player in the A-League with his ability in that position,” he added.

Make sure you follow the Jets down the F3 on Saturday for the third and final Derby Day of the 2011/12 season.
