The Newcastle Jets have suffered a 7-1 loss to Kashima Antlers in Japan on Tuesday evening.
The home side scored the opening goal just after the 10 minute mark when Zane Schreiber was punished under pressure, allowing Aleksandar Čavrić to curve his shot past Jets goalkeeper James Delianov to make it 1-0.
The Serbian attacker had his second when a clever through ball from Yuta Matsumura allowed Čavrić to dink his shot past Delianov.
The home side continued to show their ruthlessness and a cross from the left wing from Ryoya Ogawa was turned into his own net by Delianov to make it 3-0 to Kashima inside 20 minutes.
The Antlers had their fourth on the 40th minute mark when Homare Tokuda found space in behind to curl his shot into the bottom corner.
On the stroke of half-time Čavrić completed his hat-trick when the attacker found the back of the net again.
With the Jets trailing 5-0 at the break, Mark Milligan turned to the bench, injecting Xavier Bertoncello onto the field in place of Will Dobson.
Kashima made it 6-0 in the 55th minute when 19-year-old Tokuda smashed home a powerful shot into the bottom corner.
Kyosuke Tagawa made it 7-0 after Haruki Hayashi managed to beat Daniel Wilmering to the ball and square for Tagawa who calmly found the back of the net.
The Jets kept fighting and found a consoloation when new signings Joe Lolley and Patrick linked up for the latter to add a goal back for Milligan’s side.
The Jets are next back in action at home on October 13 when they take on Gamba Osaka in their next Asian Champions League Elite match.
