Box Office Jets Get Newcastle Bouncing

The Box Office Jets Demolished Wellington 4-1 to push themselves into the top two.

The Jets were off to a quick start, with Lachlan Bayliss scoring 21 seconds into the match, taking the record of the quickest goal in Newcastle Jets history.

After that, Wellington took control of the match for a 20 minute span, but were unable to take advantage of their dominance as the scores remained locked at 1-0 to the Jets at the half-time break.

Clayton was able to double the lead in the 56th minute. Daniel Wilmering found him in the box, where he was able to shimmy his way past the defender before curling his effort into the back of the net.

Eli added a third in the 70th minute, when Player of the Match Lachlan Bayliss found him inside the box. Eli made no mistake, pushing his effort through the crowd into the back of the net, before pulling out his trademark “cold” celebration.

Wellington pulled one back for themselves, when new signing Sander Kartum curled one into the goal. Soon after however, Xavier Bertoncello restored the Jets three goal lead. A driving run from Bertolissio found Xavier, unmarked at the back post. Xavier took his effort first time, curling it into the bottom corner.

The 4-1 win puts the Jets into second, equal on points with Auckland in first, but behind on goal difference. Make sure you catch the Box Office Jets in action at McDonald Jones Stadium next Saturday, 5pm kick-off as they take on the Brisbane Roar. Tickets are available HERE
