Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce the signing of dynamic shot-stopper Jack Duncan for the 2020/21 season.
This will be the third stint for the 27-year-old glove-man who returns from two seasons in Saudi Arabian Pro League with Al-Qadsiah FC.
Duncan was excited to return ‘home’ to Newcastle with his fiance and excited about the upcoming season.
“Obviously things off the pitch have been up in the air in the past two months but it’s all sorted and now I can just look forward to the season which is great.” Duncan said.
“We bought a home just before we left last time so it seems like a long-time coming to finally settle in, but it’s been great. The house is just around the corner and it’s just great to be home.”
“Newcastle is my home now – it’s where I wanted to come back.”
Duncan has been training with the squad since the start of preseason and hasn’t missed a beat.
Craig Deans has been in charge of the squads training in that time and he was rapt to have the glove-man back in Newcastle.
“Jack will add to the strength of the squad.” Deans said.
“Obviously he has been he before, he knows everyone and he fits in. He’s been part of a successful team here in the past and hopefully he can bring his experience from overseas and the last time he was here.”
Deans said he believes Duncan brings nothing but positives to the side and sees the battle between he and Lewis Italiano as a huge bonus for the club.
“It’s going to be challenging each week for him and Lewi, but it’s something that’s good for the club and good for the both of them.”
Duncan has a great relationship with the change room and the rest of the ‘goalkeeping union’.
He believes that any successful team always has a healthy rivalry and friendship between the keepers.
“Looking across the league, I’d say we have the strongest goal-keeping department as a whole, which great for the club.”
“Lewi, Noah and I push each other every day at training and that’s the way we like it.”
Duncan made his professional debut in the 2011-12 A-League season against the Brisbane Roar.
