‘Little angry man’ makes 50th A-League appearance

O'Toole

Connor O’Toole will line up for his 50th A-league appearance when the Newcastle Jets take on Perth Glory this Saturday.

O’Toole has started every match of the 2020/21 campaign and solidified his starting spot with a string of good performances this season.

O’Toole began his A-League career with the Brisbane Roar in 2016 and debuted the following year in a 1-1 draw with Melbourne Victory.

During his time with the Roar, he made 31 A-league appearances before signing for the Jets midway through the 2019/20 campaign.

Since arriving at the Jets, he has made 18 appearances, with this weekend’s game rounding out a half-century of A-league appearances for the dynamic left wing-back.

“That’s always the hard part when you start out in football, your first 0 to 50 games are up and down generally, and you have moments where you’re good and you have moments where you struggle,” Coach Craig Deans said.

With great technical ability and an aggressive presence, the 23-year-old has been a mainstay in the backline for the Jets this season.

“Technically, he’s a very good player, he’s got speed, and he’s aggressive,” Deans said.

“he’s an angry little man when he wants to be”

O’Toole has enjoyed an impressive campaign and will look to build on those performances and help steer his team towards the top half of the ladder.

“Connor scored a great goal two weeks ago. He needs to take a lot of self-belief from that and from himself,” Deans praised.
