The Newcastle Jets took advantage of the weekend break by taking some time to visit St Philips Christian College in Cessnock, 50 minutes from Newcastle. Tarek Elrich, Taylor Regan and Zhang Shou traveled to the Hunter where the school was celebrating book week.

The players were greeted by hundreds of school children who were dressed in costume as their favourite book characters. Some of the stand out costumes included Wally (Where-s Wally), Batman, French cartoon character Madeline, and four teachers were dressed as Ninja warriors. It was wonderful to see the entire school get behind the book week concept which is aimed at encouraging school children to read.

To enhance the reading message, Taylor Regan and Tarek Elrich read a story to the entire school which they did with much enthusiasm. The players signed jets merchandise and individual posters and then watched the children participate in some football activities. The players then awarded a prize of a Newcastle Jets scarf to Matthew Parish, who was deemed to be the player who tried the hardest in the football activities.

The Newcastle Jets would like to thank all staff and students at St Philips Christian College for making us feel welcome and for putting on such a great event to celebrate Book Week.
