Talking Points from Jets win over Wellington

It was a night dedicated to thanking our Members and didn’t the team turn it on?!

After going down to Wellington less than two weeks ago on the Central Coast, our side were out for redemption and found it with a strong 4-0 win that now pits them firmly back in the race for the top six.

Here are the major talking points from our big win over the Phoenix at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Boumal’s Double Delight

What a performance it proved to be for our Cameroonian winger! After scoring early on in the season, it took a while for Boumal to grab his season which he did in our recent defeat with Wellington.

Tonight, he doubled his tally in the space of 12 minutes with two goals in the second half.

The first saw him latched onto the rebound from a whipping Daniel Penha shot, before then unleashing a devastating strike of his own that successfully found the bottom corner.

He also created two chances for our side over the course of the game, and completed three out of three take ons/dribbles.

Second half resurgence

It was a see-saw of a first half as both teams looked to assert dominance but struggled to find any clear cut chances. But that all changed in the second half as our team came out firing.

With a few tactical adjustments made by Manager Arthur Papas, we took the game by storm, starting off with Boumal’s double, which was followed by another terrific goal by Beqa Mikeltadze, and then a great headed effort by impact substitute Eli Babalj.

It’s a great turnaround from recent weeks where our team have seen the game escape them in the last minutes of the second half, and instead this week, put our opposition to bed by capitalising on our chances.

A win for our Members

After a string of matches away from home, it was fantastic to be back at McDonald Jones Stadium, and celebrating our most valuable fans in our #JetsMembersDay.

Special thank you messages were presented pre-game on behalf of the players and coach, and there were many exciting items over the course of the evening.

But none were more exciting than the performance our side put out on the field. Our Members were treated to a feast of goals, and a strong defensive effort to secure our second 4-nil victory, and stamp ourselves as the best attacking team in the competition when playing at home.
