Newcastle Jets coach Phil Stubbins says the Jets are unified and highly motivated heading into their vital clash with Hyundai A-League leaders Perth Glory at nib Stadium on Friday night.
The Jets boss assured fans that the entire team is on the same page as they look to secure their first victory of the 2014/15 season against the Glory at nib Stadium on Friday night.
“Everyone in the squad is on board and I wouldn’t say there is any reason to suggest that there is any split in the camp from anyone involved,” Stubbins said.
“If there was a point in time where I thought the group was fractured and everyone wasn’t pulling in the same direction I’d put my hand up and say it’s not working.”
Stubbins said the team needs to take the intensity shown at training this week to Perth if they want to avoid a repeat of their 2-1 loss to the Glory in Round 4.
“My message to the players is that if they can bottle that intensity and take it into the game that’s what we need to get a result,” Stubbins said.
“It’s been a while coming where we’ve had that real intensity and accountability and a real desire and passion that we’ve had a training.
“You can’t just flick a switch in a game but if we can carry that over into the game we’ll be fine.
The Newcastle Gaffer said that despite the team surrendering five leads so far this season there is no doubt the team has the quality required to win and they plan to show it against the Glory.
“We’re good enough to win games and we’ve defiantly knocked on the door,” said Stubbins
“There has been quite a lot of things that perhaps lesser people and less clubs would fracture from but it’s not going to happen here at the Jets.
“We’re together, we’re very united, we all believe in each other and we’re looking forward to the opportunity of showing what we’ve got in terms of our worth tomorrow night.”
The Jets coach said while reported ownerships talks with Scottish Premiership club Dundee United are exciting for the Club and supporters they’re remaining completely focused on their on-field performance.
“Newcastle Jets is an unbelievable platform into not only Australian football and the A-League but also into Asia,” Stubbins said.
“For any prospective owner to investigate the option of taking over the Jets I would say it’s a fantastic opportunity and if we did have new ownership we would all welcome it and perhaps we could kick-on and turn some draws into wins.
“The club’s certainly got everything in place to deal with discussion but that’s not my area and I’m focused solely on coaching.”
