Sibling rivalry will be on display when the Jets youth team take on Broadmeadow Magic in the NBN State League on Sunday.
The Newcastle Jets Youth team will take on the Broadmeadow Magic in an NBN State League top of the table clash at Wanderers Oval on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams are locked on 18 points at the top of the competition ladder with six wins and just one loss apiece.
Making the fixture even more intriguing is a trio of family connections between the Jets and Magic.
Three sets of brothers in the form of James and Luke Virgili, Alex and Michael Kantarovski and Andrew and Matt Hoole could potentially face-off when the two sides meet on Sunday.
While the brothers would no doubt have gone head-to-head in the backyard plenty of times during their childhoods, Jets right back Andrew Hoole said he was looking forward to the unique opportunity of playing against a sibling in a competitive fixture.
“It hasn-t happened too much in the past, so for it to happen this weekend is a good opportunity to see where we-re at and I-m looking forward to it,” Hoole said.
With so much at stake for both Clubs, Hoole said there was little chance that the brothers would be taking it easy on each other.
“Both teams are sitting up there at the top of the table so it should be a great game,” he said.
“I-m just looking forward to playing against my brother, and football wise it should be a good game to watch because both teams are doing really well at the moment.”
After suffering their first loss of the season when they went down 2-1 to the Edgeworth Eagles a fortnight ago, the Jets bounced back with a convincing 4-1 win over Charlestown City Blues last weekend.
Hoole said the loss to Edgeworth had reminded the Jets of the need to perform at a consistently high level week-in, week-out.
“We started well winning five from five, but then had a bit of a slip-up the other week against Edgeworth which brought us back down to earth a bit,” he said.
“That let us know that we still need to work hard and we got a good result on the weekend and hopefully we can back that up this week against the Magic.”
