The Newcastle Jets continue to secure the future of some of their brightest talents, today announcing the re-signing of defender, Lachlan Jackson.

The towering defender has inked a two-year extension that will see him at the Jets until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2020/21 season.

In his time at the Club, Jackson has racked up more than 50 appearances over three seasons – primarily being deployed in the centre of defence.

The Sunshine Coast product has also secured junior representative honours, featuring in the national U23 set up in 2017.

Jets boss, Ernie Merrick said that Jackson possessed the key attributes he looked for in a central defender.

“Lachlan is a great physical presence and is one of the fastest players in the Club, he’s a phenomenal athlete,” Merrick said.

“He’s continuing to mature as a player and Lachlan has put in some excellent performances so far this season.

“With the work he continues to put in off the park there’s no doubt Lachlan has a big future in the game and we’re glad it’s here at Newcastle for the next two seasons.”

Jackson said he was delighted to continue with the club where he’d established himself in the Hyundai A-League, as he continues his development under the guidance of some experienced mentors.

“I’ve loved my time in Newcastle,” Jackson said.

“I’ve got the opportunity to work with two of the most experienced centre backs in the league in Nigel (Boogaard) and Nikolai (Topor-Stanley).”

“It’s also been great working with Ernie and the coaching staff, who continue to support my development as a player.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunities the next few years can bring in Jets colours, the club is headed in an exciting direction and it’s nice to be a part of it.”

Jackson also continues to balance his playing commitments with study, currently mid-way through an Engineering Degree – one of several Jets undertaking tertiary studies.
