City too good in Davis’ record-breaking match

While it was a momentous occasion for captain Cass Davis and the Club as a whole, our team unfortunately couldn’t get the points going down to a strong Melbourne City side despite producing numerous chances.

Our side had the best of the early chances, with Sophie Harding and Ash Brodigan both coming close to scoring, but City were the first on the scoresheet with a dashing, skipping strike by Kaitlyn Torpey beating Claire Coelho from distance.

The second half began in tough fashion too, as the hosts came out blazing, scoring in the first few minutes through their leading scorer, Hannah Wilkinson.

Despite a few glimpses of promising moments in front of goal, our side weren’t able to trouble the City goal all too much, and finished the game without registering a goal, 2-nil.

Our Jets have just one team to face now in the Liberty A-League, Brisbane Roar, however will face them twice in four days. Next Friday night will see our team host the Roar, before we are then scheduled to meet them back in Brisbane on the following Monday to end our season.

HALF TIME

35′ Pollicina finds the back of the net, but the goal is ruled out due to offside.

32′ Brodigan skips her way into the box after winning possession deep in the opposition half. Instead of passing though, she shoots and it’s deflected and cleared away.

23′ Allan tries her luck with a daring run towards the box. She launches from range, but it skips past the upright.

19′ A penalty box scramble almost sees us find the back of the net to equalise, but the City defence do well to block shots and rid the danger away.

13′ A City cross-turned-shot threatens our goal, but Coelho is up to the task and safely collects it.

8′ First chance of the game and it’s our Harding who goes within inches! She dispossesses a defender and drives it into the box but her shot knicks the outside of the post.
