Alexis Bridge and her son Ryder have only followed the Newcastle Jets for the last two seasons, but in that short span, they have attended 15 games, including making three separate trips away to Melbourne.
“We came about supporting the Jets through my son Ryder, Cass Davis had been working at his school at the time, and he really built a connection with her so started asking to go watch her play. Before this we had never even watched a game.”
“We’ve probably been to 15 games over the 2 seasons so far. This includes 3 road trips to Melbourne for games.”
One of those trips to Melbourne includes last season’s A-League Women’s semi-final against Western United. On the day, the Jets won 4-2 in extra-time, thanks to goals from Melina Ayres and Sophie Hoban after Sarina Bolden scored a brace in regulation. However, the game is more well-known for there being a blackout during the second half, which resulted in play being halted for more than 20 minutes.
“I think our favourite game would have to be the away game against Western United last season. It was our first trip to Melbourne, we drove down the day of the game and drove home the day after. There was a blackout mid-game, and the Jets came away with a win. It’s certainly a game my kids still talk about frequently.”
Alexis and Ryder consider captain Cass Davis their favourite player, although they acknowledged that Sophie Hoban isn’t too far behind as second favourite.

During member appreciation week, Alexis was one of eleven Jets members who were awarded $1,000 by Greater Bank as a part of their celebration of ten years of partnership with the Newcastle Jets.
“It meant a lot to win the $1000 in Member appreciation week. It’s certainly something we have noticed when attending the Women’s games is the appreciation of the fans, from members’ events to kids on the field at the end of games and the way the players interact with the fans.”
