Match Report: Goals Galore as U18s down Hills United 8-0

The U18s put on an attacking masterclass, as they defeated Hills United 8-0 at Rockwell Automation Park

Our U18s got off to a quick start, with Luca Bennell striking the post inside the first 30 seconds of the match. He would make no mistake just a minute later, as he broke through between the centre backs before calmy slotting his shot into the bottom corner, 1-0 to the U18s. Max Wettig grabbed a second for the boys five minutes later, as he smashed his effort low and hard past the keeper to make the score 2-0 inside the first ten minutes of the game.

Hills United were able to fashion themselves a chance, as their winger managed to lose his defender before swinging in a cross, but the resulting effort went well over the bar, with no danger to Brayden Butler in net. Luka Bennell had another chance to score, as Darcy De Vries won the ball high up the pitch, before finding Luka in the box. Luka turned away from his defender, but couldn’t keep his shot low enough to hit the target.

Max Wettig grabbed a third for the boys in spectacular fashion, as Hills half-cleared a chance, Max threw himself into the air, scoring with a bicycle kick as the Hills keeper was left rooted to the spot. Max almost had a hattrick soon after, as he was played in behind before shooting towards the bottom corner, only for the keeper to make a good save to deny him the match-ball. The whistle was blown soon for half time, with our U18s leading Hills United 3-0.

Luca Bennell had the first solid chance of the second half, as he got on the end of a De Vries cutback. He fired with his left foot, but the Hills keeper was equal to the effort. The De Vries to Bennell link came into action again, this time resulting in a fourth goal for the team. De Vries fizzed a ball into Luca Bennell’s feet. Luca took a touch past his defender before smashing the ball with the outside of his foot into the roof of the net.

There was no denying Max Wettig his hattrick this time. He managed to stay onside, before striking the ball low and hard beneath the keeper to secure the hattrick and the 5-0 scoreline. Archie Brideson added a sixth goal for the U18s, as he beat the offside trap, before chopping past his defender and catching the keeper flat-footed as he finished into the bottom corner.

Kai Thompson got himself on the scoresheet in the U18s, after scoring in the previous game for the U16s. He latched onto a wayward back pass before rounding the keeper and tapping into an empty net to make it 7-0.

It was 8-0 just two minutes later, as Roman Della Bosca was quickest to react to a shot saved by the Hills keeper. The keeper did well to keep out the initial header, but could only manage to palm the ball into the path of Roman, who was able to poke the ball past the keeper and in.
