The Newcastle Jets are delighted to sign highly talented local Ben van Dorssen to a two-year scholarship deal.
A local junior, van Dorssen has risen through the Jets Academy ranks since he was nine years old.
A centre-back by trade, van Dorssen can also play at right back or in defensive midfield.
Van Dorssen was recently selected as part of a Young Socceroos (U20) training camp which was recently held in Sydney.
van Dorssen said, “I’m really pleased to sign a scholarship deal with my hometown club. This is something I have always dreamed of since joining the Jets in the under 9’s at the Academy. I know the hard work has only just begun and I can’t wait to get started to develop my game even further here in Newcastle.”
Coach Rob Stanton is pleased to have Ben sign on for the coming season.
“I’ve been hugely impressed with Ben’s work rate and application to training since I have been here at the club. I have monitored his progress closely along with the Youth Team this season with Coach Damian Zane and I’m excited to bring through another local talent into the first team fold.
Ben has already spent a large amount of time training with the first team environment since returning from injury and I’m happy to reward him with a scholarship deal and see him transition into A-League level.”
