Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce the signing of Australia U-23’s representative Jordan O’Doherty, effective immediately.
The 23-year-old midfielder joins the Jets via Western Sydney Wanderers as part of a trade for Steven Ugarkovic.
The signing of O’Doherty is a great coup for the Club, having not only secured his services for the remainder of this year but an option in the Club’s favour for the 2021/22 season.
Executive Chairman Shane Mattiske said; “We are pleased to have secured a talent like Jordan and executed a trade for Steven, given he was headed to Western Sydney next season.

“At a young age, Jordan has already played 63 top-flight games and is in the mix to represent Australia in the Olympics.”
A member of Australia’s U-23 men’s national football team, O’Doherty made his A-League debut for Adelaide United against Newcastle in 2016.
After two seasons and 28 A-League games in Adelaide, he joined the Wanderers in 2018 and has played 35 games for the franchise with eight of those this season.
Ugarkovic, 26, had committed to join the Wanderers from the 2021/22 season but will make the switch earlier after the Jets were able to secure O’Doherty.
Having started his professional football career with Croatian franchise NK Osijek, Ugarkovic joined the Jets in 2016 where he launched his A-League career.
The Club thanks Ugarkovic for his contributions and wishes him well.
