Ryan Griffiths- 2011/12 campaign started strongly on Saturday afternoon with the former Socceroo scoring two goals to help the Newcastle Jets secure a 3-2 win over Melbourne Heart.
Recruited from Beijing Guoan, Griffiths joined the Jets at the start of this year to boost the Jets’ striking power.
“Going into the game I was confident that I had plenty of goals in me,” Griffiths said.
“During the game I was lucky enough to be given a number of chances and I made the most of those chances.”
Down 1-0 early in the first half, Griffiths’ equaliser came off a free kick, with the 30-year old striking the ball perfectly from 30 metres out.
Minutes before half time Griffiths again found the net, giving his team a 2-1 advantage going into the second half.
The striker was quick to acknowledge the vocal support of the home crowd during the Jets win on the weekend.
“The atmosphere at Ausgrid Stadium was incredible,” Griffiths added.
“Our Members and fans are so passionate and it was great to play in front of such a supportive crowd.”
Griffiths touched on the feeling in the sheds after the game before quickly turning his attention to this Sunday’s game against the Phoenix in Wellington.
“The mood in the sheds after the game was amazing,” he said.
“We all sang the team song and enjoyed the moment before meeting up with our families and sharing the victory with them.
“This week we travel to Wellington and we know that is another challenge.
“Even though we don-t have the best record over there, we are preparing well and the team is determined to come away with a win.
“I am confident we will do well over in Wellington.”
