The Hahn Australia Cup is a national knock-out competition featuring teams from the A-League, NPL and below.
Competition Format:
Each member federation (Queensland, NSW, Northern NSW, Victoria, ACT, Tasmania, South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia) all play their own individual qualifiers to determine what teams represent their federation, with 22 member federation teams joining the 10* A-League sides in the Round of 32 draw. Once the draw is complete, all 16 Round of 32 ties will take place across
*Auckland FC and Wellington Phoenix do not compete as they are located in New Zealand
Should we advance past Preston Lions, the Australia Cup Round of 16 draw will take place on the 30th of July following the final Round of 32 match. The quarter-finals and semi-finals drawn will take place immediately after the Round of 16 draw. Balls will contain a match number instead of participating Club names – these match numbers will correspond to the Round of 16 matches (e.g., Winner of Match 1 vs Winner of Match 2). This format creates a tournament bracket for the Quarter Finals and Semi Finals, with the winners of the Round of 16 knowing who they are likely to face in the next stage of the competition.
The home team for each tie is determined by who is drawn first. The first team drawn for each individual tie will be the host team, unless an NPL team has been drawn against an A-League side. If an NPL side has been drawn against an A-League side, the NPL side will play host for the match. The selection of the Host Venue for the Hahn Australia Cup 2026 Final will be determined by Football Australia, and will be announced after the semi-finals have concluded. The winner of the Hahn Australia Cup will qualify for the 2027/28 AFC Champions League Two.
Match Rules:
Each and every cup tie must be decided on the day. If the score is even at full-time, then two “extra-time” periods of 15 minutes each will be played to determine a winner. If the scores remain even at the end of extra-time, a penalty shoot-out will ensue.
