Despite early pressure from Preston, it would be Will Dobson who would open the scoring in the fixture. Bertolisso fired a ball across the box, which was cut out by a Preston defender. Dobson would fire the loose ball at the first attempt, picking out the bottom right corner.

Just six minutes later, debutant Nikos Vergos would score his first in Jets colours. Max Burgess would play an incisive through ball, picking out the marauding Wilmering, who fired a cross into the box at the first time of asking. Bertoncello got on the end of Wilmering’s pass, touching it back for Vergos who smashed his effort into the bottom left corner.

Just ten minutes into the second half, Bonada would pull a goal back for Preston, tapping in from close range after his initial effort was saved by Delianov. Bonada would equal the score soon after, with another deflected strike falling to his feet, leaving him an empty net to tap in to after Delianov committed to the first strike.
Lazarevski would score the winner for Preston deep into stoppage time to secure the win for Preston Lions, knocking the Jets out of the Australia Cup in the Round of 32.
