Match Report: Jets suffer defeat against Roar

The Newcastle Jets have succumbed to a 4-2 defeat to Brisbane Roar at Spencer Park in Brisbane on Friday night.

The Jets had the first genuine chance of the contest when Melina Ayres had a chance from close range, saved by Brisbane goalkeeper Tahlia Franco after 20 minutes.

The Jets had a huge chance at the end of the first half when Alexis Collins found Sophie Hoban who had her shot denied by Franco in what was the last bit of action for the first half.

The hosts received the perfect start to the second half when forward Daisy Brown met a cross from Ashlyn Miller that was headed home to give the Roar the lead.

Brown soon had her second when the goalkeeper put Jets goalkeeper Georgia Ritchie to force the ball into the net and double Brisbane’s lead.

Brown completed her hat-trick in the 63rd minute when a deflection was able to force the ball into the net and put Brisbane into a 3-0 lead.

Brisbane made it 4-0 when a cross across the field from Brown was found by Bente Jansen, who showed composure to finish past Ritchie.

The Jets pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute when Tash Prior was able to head home from a reverse swinging cross by Kelli Brown.

The Jets added another consolation in the 90th minute when Sophie Hoban was able to reduce the deficit to 4-2 however, it was not enough as the Roar saw out the win.

The Newcastle Jets next face Adelaide United on Saturday, the 28th March at 2.45 pm at ServiceFM Stadium in South Australia.
