The Newcastle Jets were too strong for Cooks Hill as they beat them 5-0 at Number 2 Sportsground to progress to the Australia Cup Quarter-Finals.

Daniel Wilmering opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a long range effort (that may have been a cross). Kosta Grozos swung a ball out to Wilmering on the left. He took a touch before looking to launch a ball into the box. His cross ended up flying over the keepers head into the back of the net, making it 1-0.
Xavier Bertoncello doubled the advantage in the 41st minute, in what was his first goal in senior football. Max Burgess picked up a loose ball, driving through midfield before taking out the entire Cooks Hill defence with an inch-perfect pass. Bertoncello took a touch before sliding the ball through the keepers legs. The score would remain at 2-0 as the halftime whistle came.
Seven minutes into the second half, the Jets would strike again. Ben Gibson would receive the ball before finding Kota Mizunuma with an outside the foot pass. Kota took control of the bobbling ball before cutting onto his left and curling the ball into the bottom corner.
A fourth goal would come in the 56th minute, this time through Ben Gibson. Bracco would nutmeg his defender with a pass, finding Burgess. Max slotted Gibson through, who would then find Badolato. Alex got tackled as he received the ball, with it then falling to the feet of Gibson. Ben fired, with the ball deflected off of the post before nestling into the back of the net.
Gibson was replaced by Lachlan Rose right after scoring, with Will Dobson taking the place of Xavier Bertoncello. In the 69th minute, Alex Nunes replaced Max Burgess, with Oscar Fryer also coming on for his long awaited debut, replacing Alex Badolato. Oscar had previously spent 12 months recovering from an ACL injury. In the 77th minute, Lachlan Bayliss replaced Kota Mizunuma.
Daniel Wilmering would put the final nail in the coffin with his second goal of the game. Oscar Fryer would tackle the Cooks Hill defender, before delivering a cross into the box. The cross would be headed clear, but only to Daniel Wilmering, who would bring the ball down. He then shifted inside before shooting with his right foot, with the ball sailing past the keeper and in.
The 5-0 victory secures passage to the quarter-finals of the Australia Cup for just the second time in the clubs history, with it last happening in 2019.
