Newcastle Jets striker Joel Griffiths says the Jets refuse to give up and will continue to fight to make the best of their 2014/15 Hyundai A-League campaign.
Griffiths said despite the testing start to the season, the Jets will stay united and continue to battle each week for the Club’s Members and supporters.
“It’s been tough but the most important thing is to not give up and remain positive,” Griffiths said.
“Hopefully a little bit of luck and positivity can rub off and we can get on some sort of run.”
The 35-year-old says while the Jets have started slow this season the team can still be in the mix come the playoffs in May.
“It’s amazing what three points can do within the whole group,” Griffiths said.
“It brings out confidence and you start to see players do things and you go ‘where was that 10 games ago’?
“We’re never going to give up and we’ll fight until the end.”
The Jets are looking to score their first three points this weekend in their 10-year anniversary match against Adelaide United but Griffiths says it will be stern test with the Reds buoyant after claiming the FFA Cup midweek.
“I think we can beat any team in the competition if we put our minds to it and focus for the full 90 minutes,” Griffiths said.
“Obviously it’s hard times at the moment but we’ll give everything tomorrow night and hopefully with a bit of luck we can get the three points.”
Griffiths said the Novocastrians will have to be prepared to grind out a victory against the attacking minded Reds.
“They’re in a situation where they can express themselves a little bit, where we’re in that grind,” Griffiths said.
“After a couple of wins we could probably relax a little bit and maybe try some flicks and that sort of stuff but it’s going to be a grind for us and we’ve got to play out the 90 minutes.”
The former Leeds United striker has been given the armband this weekend with regular captain Kew Jaliens serving a two-match ban after being given a straight red against the Perth Glory last weekend
“I don’t really look into it too much and I’ll just go out and play my normal game and lead by example, hopefully the boys can follow,” Griffiths said.
