Beka Mikeltadze has capped off his first season at the Newcastle Jets with a recall to the Georgian national side.
The striker was due to run out for the A-Leagues All-Stars in last night’s clash with FC Barcelona but had to withdraw when selection news came through on Saturday.
Mikeltadze flew home on Sunday night and will join his teammates in Tbilisi before taking part in Nations League group games with Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Gibraltar.
Mikeltadze’s place in the 30-man All-Star squad was taken by winger Olivier Boumal.
The Georgian has previously had two senior caps for his country, the most recent in November 2020.
His stunning season with the Jets (13 goals in 24 games) had put him back on the national team radar and he was thrilled to get the call up.
Georgia tackle Gibraltar at home on June 3, followed by road trips to Bulgaria (June 6) and North Macedonia (June 10) before a return match at home with Bulgaria (June 13).
