Biography
An attacking-minded full-back who is also capable of playing on the wing, Thomas came through the Western Sydney Wanderers Academy, before breaking into their A-League squad. He departed the Wanderers and joined the Central Coast Mariners ahead of the 2022/23 season. He played 13 games for the Mariners, before moving across to the better side of the F3 in a swap deal on transfer deadline day.
2022/23 Season:
Aquilina made his debut shortly after making the move across from the Mariners. He was used across both the left and right full-back positions throughout his debut campaign.
2023/24 Season:
This was Thomas’s first full season at the club. He played all 120 minutes in the Australia Cup qualifying round as we beat Melbourne Victory 6-4 on penalties. Throughout this campaign, Aquilina largely featured as a right winger, as he went on to register 2 assists in 16 appearances in the A-League.
2024/25 Season:
Thomas started the season with a brace in a 4-1 win over Western United in the Australia Cup qualifying round, his first two for the club. He scored again in the Round of 16 in a 4-3 loss to Macarthur. Aquilina scored his first A-League goal in the F3 Derby, in what was a 2-1 loss for the club. He also scored another goal and grabbed two assists in a 4-0 win for the team. He finished the season with 5 goals and 6 assists across all competitions, winning the clubs A-League Men’s Player of the Year award.
2025/26 Season:
Thomas started and captained the team in the Australia Cup Round of 32 clash against Adelaide United, before unfortunately missing the Round of 16 due to injury. He appeared off of the bench in the quarter-finals, before starting both the semi-final and final as the club lifted the Australia Cup, beating Heidelberg 3-1 in extra-time. Aquilina set up Max Burgess for the equaliser, having gone down 1-0 early in the match. Thomas played the first five games of the A-League campaign, starting four of them before being ruled out for several weeks due to injury.
