Alex Nunes

Born in Darwin, Alex Nunes moved to Newcastle at the age of nine, where he joined the Newcastle Jets Academy. The talented attacking midfielder rose through the ranks of the Academy, debuting for the Youth team as a 15-year-old. Nunes was an important part of the Youth Team which went unbeaten in the 2024 Football NSW League Two campaign, scoring 11 goals in 22 appearances, earning himself an A-League scholarship deal in the process. He previously spent a period on trial with Portuguese giants Benfica. 

2024/25 Season:

Nunes signed a two-year scholarship deal at the beginning of the season, before making his debut in the Australia Cup qualifying round fixture against Western United. He also featured on the bench for the Round of 32 fixture against Rockdale Ilinden, but would not see any more first team minutes for the rest of the season. Nunes continued to shine for the Youth Team, adding another four goals in 19 appearances during the 2025 FNSW League One Season.

2025/26 Season:

Under new Head Coach Mark Milligan, Nunes became more involved in the first team. He featured in four out of the five Australia Cup fixtures as the Jets went on to lift the cup for the first time in their history. Nunes played an important role in the success, scoring in the 4-2 semi-final victory over Avondale. In the final, Alex came off of the bench, drawing a foul which resulted in a red card, before laying on an assist as the Club triumphed 3-1 in extra-time over Heidelberg. Nunes also made his A-League debut this season, featured off of the bench eight times as the Club lifted the Premiers Plate for the first time.

2026/27 Season:

Nunes signed a two-year extension at the beginning of the 2026/27 season, also earning a call-up to the Young Socceroos, where he scored twice in two appearances as they won the 2026 ASEAN U-19 Boys Championships.
