Zane’s W-League update

W-League coach Clayton Zane discusses the loss last weekend and how the team are preparing for this week’s home match.

Unfortunately it was another upsetting week for the Jets W-League side as we were unable to take home those much needed three points going down 3-1 to a very impressive and undefeated Canberra United on Saturday afternoon.

Unluckily for the Jets we have met three extremely strong teams in a row and Canberra were another to add to the list, having won five from five so far this season.

It was disappointing to travel all the way to Canberra and walk away empty handed but we have a lot of positives to take away from any match; win, lose or draw.

Canberra United are a very quick team, especially the three players up front. I felt that we struggled slightly keeping up with their pace. However, we did our best and kept ourselves in the game for the whole match.

We welcomed a new player, eighteen-year old local Gemma Pearce to the team on Saturday. She played exceptionally well against the experienced Canberra United and will make a great new addition to our side.

During training this week we will be focusing on team structure and not the individual game. With the introduction of Gemma to the squad we will have to work new player combinations and formations.

The fitness amongst the team is high and we are injury free as we approach Perth Glory this weekend.

Lisa De Vanna is back at training, slightly groggy from the concussion she suffered during the Sydney FC game last week. However, she is working hard and will be at full speed come the weekend.

It will be a completely different match for us and we will be playing an attacking game against the west coasters. We will dominate as much as we can in our attacking half and hope to put pressure on every ball. We will be taking the game to them.

Hopefully we will control the majority of ball possession and create as many goal scoring opportunities as possible.

But, most importantly we will be after the three points.

After slipping slightly down the ladder board in the last couple of rounds, we will be hungry to gain a few spots back with a win over Perth Glory.

We are looking forward to being back at home in front of what have been record breaking crowds, for the Jets W-League matches. We hope to play in front of yet another record breaker on Saturday at Adamstown Oval. Kick off is 3pm so see you there.

Til next week,

Clayton Zane
