A Brandon Lundy brace combined with a classy, curling free kick from captain Nicholas Cowburn helped earn Clayton Zane’s Jets Youth side a 3-3 draw against Western Sydney Wanderers Youth at Magic Park on Sunday.
The junior Jets took an early lead in the Foxtel National Youth League 2015/16 round 1 encounter, however a double from Western Sydney attacker Lachlan Scott shortly before half-time ensured that the visitors went to the sheds with an advantage.
Lundy scored his first of the game six minutes after the interval with a thunderous strike on an acute angle, before Tariq Maia sent a crisp finish beyond Blake Tuxford in the 58th minute following good lead up play by Joshua Macdonald.
However deep into time added on at the end of the second half Lundy fired home from the edge of the six yard box to ensure that the teams would leave Magic Park with a point each to start the short eight round season.
Newcastle Jets Youth will play their next match away to FFA Centre of Excellence in Canberra on Sunday 15 November.
Zane’s boys will play their next home game of the season against Central Coast Mariners Youth at Magic Park in Broadmeadow on Sunday 29 November. Kick-off in that match is at 10:00am.
