Team effort required this weekend

The Jets can’t rely on Francis Jeffers to turn last week’s result around and it is a team effort that is required.

This Saturday’s game against Perth Glory will be coach Gary van Egmond-s first home game as well as English striker Francis Jeffers first A-League game since they both returned to the Jets.

Whilst Jeffers is a welcome addition to the team this week, van Egmond emphasised the striker will take time to settle into his role.

“Francis is obviously a very good player but it is still going to take some time for him to hit his straps and get some rhythm,” van Egmond explained.

“For us to expect he is going to go out there and play for 90 minutes and be a one man show is not realistic.

“He is an important part of the team but the team needs to support Francis.”

The coach says the team can’t rely on Jeffers to turn last week’s result around and a team effort is required if the Jets are to secure the three-points against the Glory.

“It is not up to one of two individuals but the team collectively,” the coach said.

“Perth is a good football team, they have recruited well, they are a real team of men and we need to ensure that we compete with them.

“We have the home game advantage and need to use that to dictate the game.”

Meanwhile Ben Kantarovski (calf) and Ruben Zadkovich (groin) are in doubt to take the pitch due to injury.
