Taggart believes partnership with Heskey can blossom

Adam Taggart is confident his partnership with Emile Heskey will flourish in the coming weeks.

Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets striker Adam Taggart is confident his partnership up front with former England international Emile Heskey will flourish in the weeks to come.

Heskey made his first starting appearance of the Hyundai A-League season in the Jets- 2-0 loss to Sydney FC last weekend.

Taggart, who already has six goals to his name during the 2013/14 campaign, believes he can form a formidable striker partnership with Heskey, the Jets- top scorer 2012/13.

“Obviously it-s going to take some time because he-s just coming back and I haven-t been able to play with him for a long time,” Taggart said.

“He-s a great player and he brings a whole different game to the team and we-ve got to be able to utilise that a bit better.

“As the weeks go on its obviously going to come together more as a whole team and the partnership between me and Emile will get better.

“I think there-s only good to come.”

Taggart said the Jets have put their defeat to Sydney FC behind them and are feeling confident heading into Sunday-s clash with Melbourne Victory.

The Jets suffered just their second loss of the season against the Sky Blues on Sunday which ended their six match undefeated run dating back to the opening round of the season.

“It wasn-t the best result but it-s something that we-ve put behind us now,” Taggart said.

“Sydney obviously took their couple of chances and were able to keep the lead, we still played well and probably had the most chances.

“It-s not really affected us too much, we-ve tried to pick ourselves back up as soon as the game finished and started looking towards this week.”

Taggart admitted the team were disappointed to succumb to Sydney for the second time this season but insisted their confidence is still high after recording some strong results in recent weeks.

“Looking on our recent performances we-ve lost two games the whole season, the rest we-ve been unbeaten and put in some really good performances,” he said.

“For us were looking at all the positives and how we-ve been performing in the recent month or so, we-re looking to carry that confidence into the game.”

Fresh from signing a one-year contract extension with the Jets, Taggart was named the November nominee for NAB-s Young Footballer of the Year award.

“It-s really good, I think for myself I put it down to the whole team being able to create the chances and support me in all the games as much as they have,” he said.

“For me it-s a massive positive for the whole Club and team.

“It-s been a really nice month to be fair, we-ve had some good results and for me personally being able to sign and stay here for another year is fantastic.

“It-s nice to know where I-m going to be next season and really concentrate on my football.”
