Report: Jets v Roar

Summary of match.

Brisbane Roar had the first real chance of the game when Brisbane were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box. Matilda’s representative Katrina Gorry couldn’t find the target as her shot blazed over.

Gorry had another chance and found the back of the net when she managed to evade oncoming Jets defenders to find the back of the net to give the visitors the lead.

The Jets were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty in the 26th minute when Sarah Griffith looked to have been fouled in the box but her appeals were waved away.

Newcastle suffered a huge blow at the end of the first half when attacker Murphy Agnew was stretchered from the field after a collision with Brisbane goalkeeper Hensley Hancuff.

The Jets started the second half brightly and almost drew level when Sarah Griffith had her shot graze the crossbar.

Brisbane doubled their lead in the 60th minute when Katrina Gorry evaded defenders in the box to squeeze the ball past Georgina Worth.

The Jets threatened to pull a goal back and Cass Davis was unlucky to not score as her shot narrowly missed the crossbar as Brisbane Roar held on to secure the three points.

Ash Wilson’s side next face Adelaide United on the 31st January at No. 2 Sportsground.
