The home had the first chance when Craig Goodwin played Ryan Kitto in behind the Jet’s defence but the attempt was cut out by Jordan Elsey who cleared for a corner.
The Jets settled into the match after a cagey start and took the lead when Kosta Grozos played in Jaushua Sotirio who saw his deflected shot find the back of the net in the 24th minute to give Newcastle a 1-0 lead.
Newcastle soon found themselves with another great chance on the half-hour mark when Reno Piscopo was allowed space on the edge of the box however the attacker couldn’t steer his shot on target, narrowly missing the post.
The Jets managed to hold off a fast-finishing Adelaide and take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Adelaide came out firing in the second half and almost drew level when Zac Clough’s glancing header from a Craig Goodwin free-kick shave the post.
Reno Piscopo began to find his range when he capped off a strong run with a well-taken shot which was tipped behind for a corner by Joe Gauci in the 64th minute.
Newcastle held firm for the closing stages of the match to seal the three points and move up to sixth place on the ladder.
