Records to break in 2022

We’re just over a month into the 2021/22 A-Leagues season and both our sides have showed early promising signs of what could be a memorable year.

With a lot of the season still to go, there’s plenty of time for teams to continue building together and shining, and possibly, even break a few Isuzu UTE A-League records.

Here are some of the current records that stand in our Club, and the numbers our teams would need to hit if they are to break them.

Most individual goals in a season

16 – Adam Taggart

10 – Katie Stengel

In what proved to be one of the best individual seasons from a Newcastle Jet, striker Adam Taggart managed to find the back of the net 16 times over the course of our 2013/14 season earning himself the Golden Boot of the competition – the only Jet to have ever done so.

His feat was accomplished over a 27 game season, which makes Katie Stengel’s achievement in 2017/18 significantly impressive, as she managed 10 goals over 12 games.

Joel Griffiths also deserves a big mention in this category for his efforts in the 2007/08 season, where he scored 14 goals from a 21-game season.

Currently, Georgian forward Beqa Mikeltadze not only leads our Jets, but leads the league in goals scored with four after five games, while Valentino Yuel is also not far behind with three.

Most assists in a season

9 – Dimi Petratos

Attacking midfielder Dimi Petratos proved himself to be one of the more creative players that’s pulled on the Jets jersey over the years, bagging himself a whole heap of assists in his time here.

In the 2019/20 season, Petratos managed nine assists, while in our Grand Final qualifying season of 2017/18, he also accrued eight.

Brazilian Daniel Penha is currently shining in that area so far this season, and already has his tally up to three, while Marie Dolvik is also pushing her case with two assists despite starting just two games.

Fastest goal

37 seconds – Morten Nordstrand

This record of speed is held by Danish striker Morten Nordstrand who spent just over a season with the Club in 2016 and 2017.

In the last round of our 2015/16 season, Nordstrand kicked off the F3 Derby in incredible fashion, nabbing the first goal in 37 seconds, which to this day, stands as our Club’s fastest goal ever.

We went on to beat the Mariners away from home, 4-2.

Most team goals in a game

Eight

Another record that took place against our rivals, is our most goals scored in a game which took place in 2018 in the last game of the season before finals.

Our Men travelled to Central Coast and put on a clinic, scoring eight goals over the Mariners to equal the league record.

Similarly though, our Women showed utter dominance back in 2011 when they took down Adelaide by scoring seven goals.

Both those matches stand as our biggest ever wins as well.

Most team goals in a season

59 – Men

28 – Women

Our Men hold this record thanks to their blistering 2017/18 season that saw them finish only two games without a goal throughout the entire campaign.

That season saw seven players hit the five-goal mark as we averaged over 2 goals a game, while in that same season, our Women also shone in front of goal finishing with 28 goals across our 13 matches.

This season, both teams have been firing when it comes to attacking. Our Men have scored 10 from the first five matches, while our Women are currently sitting with eight from four.

Longest undefeated streak

Seven

This record was established back in the first season of the competition, and has been replicated once after by our Men’s side.

In 2005, our side managed to defeat Adelaide in Round 8, and wouldn’t lose a match until Round 15, winning five matches in the process. We repeated that feat in 2010.

Our Women’s record is at five which was created in our 2017/18 season, but as it stands at the moment, are undefeated across three games and could possibly hunt that milestone down.

Goals in a game by a player

4 – Tara Andrews

While we previously mentioned the 7-1 drumming over Adelaide in 2011, we didn’t highlight the fact that Tara Andrews was the one who led the charge with a whopping four goals and currently holds the record for most goals in a game.

What’s even more amazing about this record, is that she was just 16 when it happened.

There’s been multiple names that have gone close to equalising the record with hat-tricks such as Ante Milicic, Katie Stengel, Riley McGree, Roy O’Donovan, Adam Taggart, Arin Wright and Matt Thompson, but none could total the same as a teenage Andrews.

Youngest goal scorer

Emily Van Egmond – 15 years and 140 days old

Very few players even make their A-Leagues debut before Van Egmond had bagged her first goal.

In the first ever Women’s F3 Derby, the future Matilda’s star grabbed two goals to help the side to a 4-2 victory, and she would have been the youngest-ever if it hadn’t been for someone named Sam Kerr…

For our Men, Archie Goodwin’s efforts against Melbourne City at the back end of last season reign as the youngest. He scored a scorcher, and his first A-Leagues goal, at the age of 16 years, 151 days old.

No one can break these records this season, as there are no players young enough in our squads.
