Pre-season: Final Jets trial ends on a good note

Newcastle Jets returned to Sydney for their last pre-season trial match as they met Macarthur FC at Fairfield Showground.

The match was played behind-closed-doors as a 90-minute match (with traditional 45-minute halves) and was won by our side, 6-3,

Beka Mikeltadze and Sam Silvera both scored in the first half, while Savvas Siatravanis, Daniel Penha, Valentino Yuel and Kosta Petratos all scored in the second period.

Teams then played 30 minutes extra following full-time, in a 10 v 10 format, to get additional minutes for some players.kosta

Manager Arthur Papas was pleased with the side’s ability to take their chances, but believes improvements are still needed in preparation for their upcoming FFA Cup match.

“It was a step forward, we were able to create our type of chances, and all the players worked very hard,” Papas said.

“But similar to our last match, there are many areas where we can continue to develop.”

Over 20 players were used across the two halves and will now return to the training field with Western United and our meeting for next Saturday night, as the focus.

Papas admitted he still hadn’t decided on a starting line-up for that Cup match.hoffy

“The FFA Cup game is eight days away and that’s a long time so we just keep working hard every day and prepare as well as possible,” he said.

“The players that played the majority of today’s game did well and have pulled up well.

“Ultimately, this trial match just provided another good opportunity to work on our football, to get matches minutes and build our fitness in preparation for the season.”

The Jets will travel to Geelong to face Western United on Saturday 13 November, with kick-off set for an amended 7:45pm time slot.
