Players give new boss their tick of approval

It’s only day 2 of the Scott Miller era at the Newcastle Jets, but already the club’s players are impressed by their new boss. Luke Robbs spoke with four Jets – Mitch Cooper, Daniel Mullen, Radovan Pavicevic, and Andy Brennan – to get their reactions to the gaffer’s sessions so far.

Newcastle Jets midfielder Mitch Cooper says that the passion and positivity shown by new Head Coach Scott Miller has seen a renewed excitement amongst the players for the up and coming Hyundai A-League season.

Cooper says that although the team has only had two sessions under Miller the players are feeling positive about the attitude and intention he and Assistant Coach Jean-Paul de Marigny have brought to the club.

“I’m really enjoying training right now, Scott and JP seem to work real well together and they have a lot of technical knowledge which is good for me to learn from as a midfielder,” Cooper said.

“The vibe is really positive and while we’ve got a lot of young boys in the squad right now we’re working really well as a team.”

Jets defender Daniel Mullen says that despite it being early days the coaches have been working the players really hard on the training paddock.

“So far the intensity at training has been right up there and message they’ve brought to the club is really positive, which is encouraging for the players,” Mullen said.

“JP is really passionate and he and Scott are looking for intensity to be a main priority at training.

“We’ve been working really hard and the boys have reacted really positively to the work we’ve been doing.”

Newcastle young gun Radovan Pavicevic believes he’s already benefiting from Miller’s technical knowledge of the game.

“He’s a really good coach and he knows what he’s talking about and from the few sessions we’ve had,” Pavicevic said. “He’s already pushing us in the right direction.”

“The coaches have been really determined and intense so far and are really promoting team unity and all the boys are trying to push each other as far as we can.”

New signing Andy Brennan has been impressed so far by the energy and positivity both Miller and de Marigny have brought to the club.

“It’s been great, there has been a lot of energy out there on the pitch so far and Scott and JP have been really upbeat about what we’ve been working on,” Brennan said.

“So far it’s been a really good environment to work in and the boys are looking forward to working with them as we go through pre-season.

“The main thing they’re looking for from us right now is to work hard as a team and focus on the future.”
