The Newcastle Jets can confirm the departure of Mitch Austin from the Club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The winger had just over four months left to run on his existing one-year contract.

Austin joined the Jets from Melbourne Victory in the off-season, and made five appearances in Newcastle colours after debuting in Round 1 of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season against the Wellington Phoenix.

Jets boss, Ernie Merrick said it was a decision made in the interest of Austin finding more game-time.

“We signed Mitch after a long injury lay-off last season and were happy with his progress and how he was performing, but ultimately he wants more game-time,” Merrick said.

“He’ll look to head to a club where he can play more football, and we wish him the best of luck.”

The Club would like to thank Mitch for his efforts and wish him well in the future.
