Newcastle Jets Youth suffered a 5-2 defeat to competition pacesetters Broadmeadow Magic in round 7 of the Northern NSW PS4 National Premier League played on Monday.

All seven goals came in an open and flowing first 45 at Magic Park, the hosts taking the lead just three minutes into the encounter via a Daniel Casciaroli strike.

Ben Hay’s deflected shot drew Newcastle level with Magic three minutes later, however former Jet Peter Haynes’ cracking effort from outside the box in the 11th minute put Broadmeadow back in front.

From there the league leaders dominated the first half – Kale Bradbery completed his brace either side of Dino Fajkovic’s 33rd minute goal.

Michael Kantarovski scored for the Jets on the stroke of half time to reduce the arrears to 5-2, however despite opportunities to both sides in the second stanza, no player could manage to trouble the scoreboard attendant again in the game.

Jets Youth are currently in fifth position in the ten team Northern NSW NPL having won three, lost three, and drawn one match in their opening seven fixtures.

Peter McGuinness’ boys will take on third-placed Edgeworth FC this Saturday 30 May at Jack McLaughlan Oval. Kick-off is 2:30pm.
